The late, great Christian thinker-writer Francis Schaeffer speculated over 25 years ago that we live in a "post-Christian culture." He created a lot of debate at the time, but I doubt too many of us would disagree anymore.
I have been following a blog by Mark Beeson, pastor ofGranger Community Church. He is in San Francisco where only 2% of the population attends church each week.
The days when our culture affirmed Christianity, the church, our values, our programs and our mission have faded. Many people are "too busy" to attend church and the role of God in people's lives has been relegated to an occasional emergency.
In a day where churches are seen by outsiders as being judgmental, hypocritical, condemning, negative, and irrelevant it's hard to make an impact for Jesus Christ.
That's why Sunday, September 12 is such an important day! It gives us a chance to change the minds of people who are close to you! Friends, family members, co-workers, and neighbors?you can invite them all to a special BACK TO CHURCH SUNDAY!
My new sermon series ?WHY I QUIT CHURCH" will honestly examine the reasons that people leave, or ignore the church and what we can do about it. We'll be examining the "Top Ten Reasons People Leave the Church" on September 12 and 19, "Why People Are Returning To Church" on September 26, and "How To Find The Right Church" on October 3.
What a great time to invite a friend to church! Can we count on you to do YOUR part?
God Bless,
Pastor Dave Pierce
